About Our Association
NGWINO MWANA Association is a national nongovernmental organization that was founded by a group of Rwandan women and men who are concerned with the problems young and adolescent girls from poor families are facing and devoted to finding solutions to these problems, which include among others, family and community poverty, illiteracy, School dropouts, premature pregnancy, lack of basic necessities such as hygiene and sanitary items, personal items such as telephone sets, participation in household chores at the expense of attending school, etc., thus leading to a vicious cycle of poverty and despair and rejection.
History
Ngwino Mwana was inspired by the story of the daughter of our founder who got pregnant during her studies and immediately her studies stopped. Thus, she got an idea of supporting her during her expectancy period and trying to take her after giving birth. Thereafter, she has realized that this concern is for numerous young girls in Rwandan communities. Therefore she gathered her colleagues and friends and shared with them the story of her daughter and other young girls in her community, that’s how these brave men and women decided to start the organization ( NGWINO MWANA) to support these teen mothers and their innocent children. To date the KNM has put in place the program of providing trainings on TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) where 78 teen mothers (who are grouped into 4 working groups and aspiring to have functional cooperatives) are trained on tailoring and sewing as well as hair dressing.
Our mission
Promoting the strengths and abilities of teen mothers by equipping them with essential life skills that not only empower them to navigate life’s challenges with confidence, competence, and dignity, but also nurture their sense of purpose, self-worth, and resilience. This support creates a transformative pathway, enabling young mothers to break cycles of poverty, stigma, and dependence, and to step into their full potential as capable, independent individuals. In doing so, we not only uplift these young women, but also lay a strong foundation for the holistic growth, well-being, and future success of the children born during their adolescence, ensuring they are raised in environments of love, opportunity, and hope. By investing in teen mothers, we are ultimately investing in healthier families, stronger communities, and a more inclusive and compassionate society
Our Vision
Empowering all vulnerable teen mothers and their children by providing holistic support that addresses their emotional, educational, economic, and social needs ensuring they are not defined by their circumstances, but strengthened by them. Through mentorship, access to quality education, health services, life skills training, and safe spaces, we strive to restore hope, dignity, and purpose. Our commitment is to nurture both the mother and the child, breaking generational cycles of hardship and opening doors to brighter futures filled with opportunity, independence, and the chance to thrive. This empowerment is not just about survival.it’s about building the confidence to dream again, the skills to pursue those dreams, and the resilience to overcome whatever challenges may come.
